This polygon shapefile represents farmland data in Santa Barbara County for 2004. This file was obtained in 2004 by UCSB Library staff. It was originally available via email from the County of Santa Barbara Planning and Development Department.
The following metadata was provided by the data creators: This shapefile represents a depiction of the estimated extent of various types of farmland in Santa Barbara County based on September 2002 ortho-rectified aerial imagery. For most of the County, farmland was grouped into two categories: 1) Prime, Statewid and Unique farmland (based on the Important Farmland map categories) 2) Farmland of Local Importance (also based on the Important Farmland map categories). Within the Santa Ynez Valley region, classification was broken down further to match the larger categories used by Calif. Department of Water Resources (DWR) croptype maps. Please see the DWR Land Use definitions for a description of these categories. The categories are shown in the "text" field of the shapefile.
