This line shapefile represents Environmentally Sensitive Habitat symbol data in Santa Barbara County for 2003. This file was obtained in 2003 by UCSB Library staff. It was originally available via email from the County of Santa Barbara Planning and Development Department.
The following metadata was provided by the data creators: This shapefile is a collection of lines converted from Autocad representing the symbols which indicate locations of Monarch Butterfly habitat as well as locations of various sensitive plant species, as part of the Environmentally Sensitive Habitat (ESH) Overlay officially adopted by the County Board of Supervisors. These symbols were taken from the ESH maps of the Goleta, Montecito, and Summerland Community Plans. This shapefile does NOT depict the actual extent of any of these habitats or species, as these extents were not depicted on the ESH maps themselves either. However, in Montecito, the extent of the Monarch Butterfly Habitat was mapped as part of the ESH overlay itself. This extent is included in the polygon shapefile 'ESH_RC_ovrly.shp'
